একটা সময় ছিল যখন আমরা ব্যাক্তিগত ব্যাবহারে ক্যামেরা কিনতে পারতাম না... এ এক বিশাল বিষয় ছিল। স্টুডিওতে গিয়ে পারিবারিক ফটোসেশন হইতো। তারপর সেই ফটুকের পেছনে ফ্লিমের নাম্বার দেয়া থাকতো... সেই নাম্বারটা যত্নের সাথে লেইখা রাখা লাগতো। আবার নতুন কৈরা ওয়াশের টাইমে ওই নাম্বার নিয়া স্টুডিওতে গেলে সেই ফ্লিম খুইজা ওয়াশ কইরা দিতে স্টুডিও ওয়ালারা।

ইয়াসিকার এই ক্যামেরাটার সাথে অনেক স্মৃতী ছিল আমাদের... এখনো বাসায় এই ক্যামেরাটা আছে... খুবি হ্যান্ডি এবং ফ্যামিলি ভার্সন... ফুজিকালার ফিল্ম এবং কোডাকের জয় জয়কার ছিল তখন। একটা ফ্লিমে ৩৬টা ছবি তোলা যেত। সো কারো কারো কপাল ভাল ছিল যাদের ৩৯টা পর্যন্ত ওঠার কথা জানি

একটা সময় ছিল যখন ম্যানুয়েল ক্যামেরার দাম কম ছিল অটোমোডের ক্যামেরার দাম বেশী ছিল... কারণ অটোমেটিক সিস্টেমটা ক্যামেরায় স্থাপন করতে ব্যাপক খরচাপাতি লাগতো ... আর এখন? অটো ক্যামেরা হাটেবাজারে... বরং ম্যানুয়েল মোডের ক্যামেরার দাম ম্যালা

Twenty or so years ago, if you had gone camera shopping, you would have been
able to buy an all-manual camera for a fairly reasonable amount of money. If you
wanted to add a bunch of automatic features, though, you would have expected
to pay a lot more.
Things are very different today. Now, for a very reasonable amount of money, you can get an all-automatic camera with far more automation than any camera of 20 years ago. But if you want to start adding manual features, you’ll have to pay a lot more.
Whether you work with an inexpensive point-and-shoot or an expensive SLR, your camera will have a fully automatic mode. In this mode it will make all of the critical decisions required to take a good photo. It will focus, select exposure settings, calculate correct color, and make many other important decisions.
Auto mode can’t compose your shot for you, of course, and there’s no guarantee that it will always make the best decision, creatively, but in general, auto modes on cameras today are extremely capable, and will almost always make very good—if not the outright best—decisions.
Because auto modes do such a good job, they provide an excellent way to practice some fundamental skills. With them, you can start shooting right away and then activate more advanced features later. In this chapter, we’re going to take advantage of Auto mode, so that you can begin practicing shooting right now. Along the way, you’re going to get an introduction to some fundamental photographic concepts. We’ll build on these skills throughout the rest of the book.
If you’re a more advanced user, there may not be anything new for you in this chapter, but give it a skim anyway. If it seems way below your skill level, don’t worry, we’ll soon be moving on to more advanced topics.
